On the occasion of the 188th Abolition of Slavery in Mauritius.

Abolish the system, free the slaves, liberate the people, start your life again. Slavery isn't so uncontemporary, it isn't so far away. I see this part of history in myself, in my brown skin and dark hair. I see it in my family. If it weren't for all those women and men, I wouldn't be here, I wouldn't be their long down the line great-granddaughter.
